Veterinary Anatomic Pathologist faculty positions - Department of Pathobiology, Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph

The Department of Pathobiology, Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology.

Qualifications and Duties:
A degree in Veterinary Medicine and a PhD in a field relevant to Veterinary Pathology are required. Board certification or eligibility in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology by the American or European College of Veterinary Pathologists is expected. The Department will support examination preparation for exceptional board-eligible candidates.

The successful applicants will establish and sustain an independent, competitive, and nationally funded research program incorporating current and innovative investigative approaches, and supporting graduate education. Applicants with research interests in molecular pathogenesis of neoplasia are particularly encouraged to apply for one of the positions. Cancer biology is an expanding emphasis in the institution, and there are numerous opportunities for collaborations with members of other departments in the OVC, and elsewhere at the University of Guelph. For the second position, candidates with research interests supporting any of the areas of Translational Biomedical Discovery, Public Health and Animal Population Health, and Individual Animal Health and Well-Being (outlined in the Colleges' integrated strategic plan www.ovc.uoguelph.ca/future/ are encouraged to apply. The Department has recognized strengths in mammalian and comparative pathology, veterinary infections diseases, and immunology. Research programs in the Department of Pathobiology are facilitated by state-of-the-art infrastructure, and supported by technical expertise.

The positions will also encompass teaching veterinary and graduate students the discipline of anatomic pathology, including experiential education through participation in diagnostic activities. Diagnostic investigations are conducted in close collaboration with the University of Guelph Animal Health Laboratory, a full-service AAVLD-accredited laboratory.

Veterinary Anatomic Pathologist - The Department of Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Auburn University

The Department of Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Auburn University, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor.

Minimum qualifications:
A DVM degree (or equivalent) and a Ph.D. degree in veterinary pathology or allied discipline. Desired qualifications include diplomate status (or eligibility) in the American College of Veterinary Pathologists or the European College of Veterinary Pathologists, commitment to excellence in instruction, strong interpersonal and written communication skills, and a record of research achievement. Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunity in Comparative Pathology - Johns Hopkins Department of Molecular and Comparative Pathobiolgy

The Johns Hopkins Department of Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology is accepting applications for our four-year postdoctoral program in anatomic pathology for a veterinarian who wishes to pursue a career as a veterinary pathologist in a research setting. Externship Program - Johns Hopkins Department of Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology

The Johns Hopkins Department of Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology offers an informal externship program in both pathology and laboratory animal medicine to veterinary students who have completed at least three (3) years of their veterinary training. The laboratory animal externship consists of hands on experience in our facility that has an average daily population of approximately 50,000 animals. The pathology externship consists of participation in the animal necropsy service for laboratory animals housed at the University as well as for cases from the Maryland Zoo, National Aquarium in Baltimore, and local practitioners. Externs work with ACVP and ACLAM board certified veterinarians, postdoctoral fellows and residents within the various specialties of our program.

The extern program is for a minimum of two (2) weeks, not to exceed eight (8) weeks. Because the program is adapted to the individual’s area of interest, only two students are accepted at a time. Scheduled times for externships are September through November and January through May. This is a non-paid externship.

The pathology laboratory is part of the FLI, located on the Isle of Riems at the Baltic Sea coast. It provides broad expertise in livestock, poultry, laboratory and small animal as well as zoo including fish pathology and research support for the other research groups, investigators and programs of the FLI. Research is mainly focussed on pathobiology and mechanisms of viral diseases: characterization of pathogenicity and virulence of infectious agents using histopathological, histochemical, immunohistological and molecular techniques, investigations on the cellular and tissue tropism, the virus-host interactions, including the molecular and immunopathogenesis, development of new diagnostic tools enabling the detection of antigens and nucleic acids in tissue sections are the main tasks.

Several post-mortem rooms are available for the different levels of biosecurity (BSL 2, BSL3 and BSL 4-VET). Currently, experimental studies are performed on European bat lyssavirus infection, avian influenza, classical swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease, bovine leukemia, infectious laryngotracheitis and RHD. Research opportunities may be available for the student with a variety of investigators. The laboratory has various self-study aids and postgraduate training in veterinary pathology required for preparation for the board certification exam of the American (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP) is offered to residents and suitable candidates under the guidance of Dr. Teifke, ACVP board certified pathologist. The extern has a weekly opportunity to participate in pathology training also in the AFIP Wednesday Slide Conference.
